A MATTER OF NATIONAL SECURITY?: WorldCom CEO John Sidgmore says bankruptcy is to be avoided because his company "is a very key component of our nation's telecommunications and security infrastructure,"
the Washington Times reports. SecDef Donald Rumsfeld is apparently confident that Sidgmore is overstating WorldCom's importance in that regard.
The Times suggests that Sidgmore is making the national security argument in an effort to retain government contracts. I think there's more to it; Sidgmore is crafting the case for a taxpayer bailout.
